December 15 and 16

December 12, 2014

Hello 5/6 Families,

Thank you for allowing us to take your children to the Citrus Cafe for lunch followed by a lot of running and playing on the beautiful grass field on the ASU Campus.  We had a wonderful, winter celebration.

Monday, December 15 is our new summative date.  We will meet in the 5/6 Quad area beginning at 5:00  and ending by 6:30 pm.  You will be able to tour the cafeteria, the homeroom classrooms, the hallways leading to our area, and what will be the new office area/front of the school.  There will also be an opportunity to hear a recording of your children singing - they sound AMAZING!  There will be short videos showing in each of the homeroom classrooms that have been created by your children.  Don't forget to check out the green/brown bulletin board by the cafeteria with photos from the ASU garden!

Tuesday, December 16 we will be walking over to cheer on our spelling bee winners as they compete for a spot to go to the state spelling bee.  The spelling bee will begin promptly at 10:00 am in the Cooley Ballroom.  Parents of the participants should have received an email with the information you need about parking for this event.  If you need additional information please contact Mrs. Lawrence, Mrs. Biggs, or Ms. Urban.

Tuesday will be the last school day for students.  Teachers have a work day on Wednesday.  ILP conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.  Parents sign up online with your child's homeroom teacher.  You may bring your child with you.  Conferences usually last about 15 minutes.

I hope your holidays will be enjoyable with your children home.   You will have two weeks to create many wonderful, life-long memories!

Wishing you peace, good health, and happiness!

See you next week at summative and ILP conferences.

Yours in science,
Mrs. Biggs

December 10, 2014

Hello 5/6 Families,

A reminder of important information that we have sent home with students.  In case you haven't received it from your child, here it is!

Thursday, December 11 - We will be hosting all 5/6 families and students from 5:00-6:30 pm.  This will be our summative which is students opportunity to share some things they have learned at ASU Prep this year.  It is a come and go event.  We look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.

Friday, December 12 we are leaving Poly campus around 12:00 to walk to the Citrus Cafe on the ASU campus.  This will be our winter celebration.  You can send in $7.25 for your child to participate in the all-you-can-eat buffet at the Citrus Cafe, or they may bring a packed lunch or the school lunch, if you have already made that purchase.  Everyone will be going.  We can't pay for your child if they forget their money.  Please send cash.  If you send in a check make it to ASU Prep.  We pay as we go into the Cafe.  We took the 5/6 graders last year and they LOVED it!  ASU students will be scarce as their finals are the first part of this week.  After lunch, we will head over to the big fields to play soccer, volleyball, and whiffle ball.  Your child can bring in a sport ball on Friday.

We have also sent our a permission slip for a field trip in January 2015.  We have to submit payment a month in advance.  If you haven't submitted your $14 (ticket and bus fee), please do so ASAP.  If you would like to chaperone, you will also need to pay $8.  You need to contact your child's homeroom teacher so that we can buy the tickets in advance.  They do not sell tickets at the door, so if you show up on the day of the play to chaperone and you haven't paid in advance you will not be able to attend the play.

Please keep in mind Science Camp at the end of May.  You still have time to make smaller monthly payments in order to pay the $140 fee for students.  If you would like to receive a tax credit for your science camp fees - I have a form, or Tax Credit forms are available online.  You can make a donation of up to $400 per calendar year for married couples, $200 for single families.  If you signed up to be a volunteer you need to have a fingerprint clearance card.  It takes about 6 weeks to process these cards.  Parents that receive their cards and are chaperoning also need to make a payment of $110.  Thank you for those who are making little payments every few weeks and for those who have paid using tax credit money!  It is definitely less stressful to pay a little bit here and there!  If you would like to apply money to a scholarship fund to help those who might need a little extra help, please let me know.

PTSO is still collecting donations for the Run Devil Run as well.  :)

Kindest regards,
Mrs. Biggs
