Biggs BlogApril 10, 2017

Well, this is the week we've been talking about since August - Sheep Eyeball Dissection!

Students will be working in pairs.  We've watched a professional dissect the eyeball.  We will do a little more background reading, discuss lab safety, discuss respect for living creatures, discuss lab safety some more, and complete our dissection.  Students will be looking for specific things during the dissection.  We've talked about if anyone starts to feel nauseous that they can step outside the classroom.  If a student doesn't want to work on the dissection, an alternative assignment will be given.  We WILL NOT be using scalpels.  Students will be filling in their data and discoveries and also adding illustrations.  We are all very excited for this amazing opportunity to learn more about the sheep eyeball!

AZMerit testing continues on Tuesday and Wednesday during 1st block. All students will be taking the AZMerit Math Part 1 and Part 2 in their foundation classrooms during 1st block.  Students are allowed back to the classrooms at 8:00 am on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Students may brink in candy/gum/snack for the testing session.  Thank you for all of the snacks/treats for AZMerit testing!

Thank you for reaching out to me with any questions regarding your child's assignments/tests.  The most recent Human Body test is complete.  Students were given a sample of the actual test along with the answers to help them prepare, review, and practice.  All the answers were on my Weebly.  Students were also told that there would be no retakes for this test, because they had all of the answers.

Science Camp is May 17-19 in Prescott, AZ.  If you haven't made contact with me to let me know your child IS NOT going, please contact me ASAP.  Parent meeting and chaperone meeting will be on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:30.  The parent meeting will be first followed by the chaperone meeting.  At least one parent will be required to attend the parent meeting.  There will a couple of additional forms given out that night that will be required to be filled out and turned in.  We will begin working on cabin assignments/chaperone assignments/and class assignments.  All students will participate in all of the classes/activities at science camp.  If you would like further information about Science camp please visit my Weebly:

ILP conferences to be held on April 20 and 21st.

The final quarter for Science will cover cells and organisms, living things in their environment, plants, humans and animals, and food chains.  Keep an eye out for attachments under the "W" on my planbook on my weebly.  I always show the students what is attached so they know where to find additional information for Science.

Thank you, thank you for ALL that you do to support your child's education.  It shows in their work, projects, assignments, behavior, friendships, and interactions with adults.  I appreciate you!  I enjoy your children everyday!  Thank you for sharing them with me! 😀

Yours in science,
Mrs. Biggs
