Bubble Gum Experiment

September 8, 2014

Hello Families,
Thank you so much for all the gum you sent in to help us complete our experiment.  I know it often requires an extra sacrifice, and I appreciate your generosity.  And the students were grateful to complete the gum experiment.

Students read a letter from a man interested in buying an established gum company.  We discussed the information in the letter, what the problem was, and we discussed how we would solve the problem.  We have pretty much finished up with the experiment portion and now we will be analyzing our data, comparing our data, and writing a conclusion for our experiment.

We also completed an experiment to discover who stole Sparky.  Students collected data and analyzed different pens to determine which pen was used to write the ransom note.

We complete science trivia every day, and it has been exciting to hear the discussion among students as they justify/defend/explain their answers.  Your children are bright, articulate, clever, and quick witted. Our year has gotten off to a great start!

The Instagrams turned out GREAT!  I appreciate those of you that contacted me with questions concerning this assignment.  I posted the expectations and documents on my weebly, last Monday, August 25.  The paperclips are supposed to be clicked on in order to view the document.  We also discussed the expectations for this assignment every day in class.  My weebly:

You can also send in a note with your child or write a question on your child's agenda.

Best regards,

Ruth Biggs

September 1, 2014

Hello Families!

I hope you have had a lovely three day weekend.  Have you done anything related to science? We spent time in class last week talking about primary and secondary resources as we researched our scientists.   We also talked about bibliographies and why it is important to document where we find our information.  We dug a little deeper and worked on questions about our scientists.  These questions and answers were completed in our science journals.  Students will have time this week to complete these questions in their journals and to update their journals.  Instagrams are due Tuesday unless you are in P6.  P6 Instagrams are due on Friday, September 5.  If your child was missing any part of this assignment, copies were posted on my weebly, Monday, August 25, 2014.  Click on the paperclips to see the attachments.  rabiggsasuprep.weebly.com

We will be completing the bubble gum experiment on Wednesday.  Thank you for your donations!

Please send in a shoe box with your child's name written on the bottom by Friday, September 5.

LEGO Robotics will be held on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30 pm.  Thank you for picking up your child promptly.

GREEN Team will be meeting on Tuesday, September 2 at 7:30 am in the QUAD.  Please bring items that can and can not be RECYCLED to our meeting.

Please make sure your child has a water bottle and a nutritious snack each day.

Thank you for your support and kindness that you extend to our staff and students that attend ASU Prep each day.  Please don't hesitate to send me an email or leave a voicemail if you have any questions or concerns.

Yours in science,
Mrs. Biggs
