January 29, 2017

Hello Amazing Science Families!

It was a pleasure to see all of you who were able to make it to our ILP's on Wednesday and Thursday.  What were your thoughts on how we conducted ILP's this time?  Thank you for touching base regarding Science Camp.

Science Camp will be held May 15 - 17, 2017.  The camp is in Prescott.  We are taking the tour busses up to camp.  Our mandatory meeting will be on May 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm.  The chaperone meeting will be immediately following our parent meeting.  I will be in contact with all adults that have signed up to chaperone in February.  Please, please, please get in and apply for your fingerprint clearance card immediately.  You will not be able to attend camp unless you have received your copy of your card.  No exceptions.

If you did not attend ILP's your child will be bringing home permission slips for ASU Prep and Aspen Creek Science Camp.  Both of these forms need to be returned immediately.

Please check the amount that you have paid and compare this to the amount that I have written on your confirmation form.  We both need to be on the same page in regards to how much you think you have paid and how much we have received.  We also need to make sure that there have been no errors in our accounting.  If you think there has been an error in accounting PLEASE contact Mrs. Biggs ASAP.

Monday, January 30, 2017 is the day Sparky Ambassadors and NJHS will be volunteering at Feed My Starving Children.  All students and families need to be at the facility by 3:15 pm.  The event will last for 2 hours.  Thank you for your willingness to volunteer.  We will be taking our Penny War and Kindness gram money that students raised.

Congratulations to students for completing their States of Matter Quiz.  These are coming home this week.!  This week we will be finishing up states of matter with solutions. We will take a quick look into the Periodic Table before moving onto Human Body.

A BIGGS thank you for providing lunch for all of the teachers, attending ILP conferences, and for raising amazing young people!

yours in science,
Mrs. Biggs

We have been wrapping up our States of Matter material.  We've been very busy!  We have a States of Matter Test on Monday and Tuesday!  The study guide is attached to my academic calendar on my weebly.  I will be posting the answer key Friday evening.  Even if your student was absent this week, the test has been announced all week long.  All students are expected to take the test by Tuesday.

Please come visit the school during ILP conferences.  Your child will be leading the ILP discussion.  All the 5/6 teachers will be in the quad available for a conversation if you need to have a quick meeting.  We sent home ILP forms with all of the students and asked parents to fill out the form, return it with a meeting request, and the area of concern.

Common and shared ILP times will be:

Wednesday 8:30 am - 12:15 pm      2:00 pm - 5:15 pm
Thursday    8:00 am - 10:00 am

During ILP conferences, we will be passing out science camp packets.  You can still sign your child up to attend science camp.   Students $$155   Chaperones $$110.  If you don't attend ILP conferences, the science camp information will come home with your child the following week.

Sparky Ambassadors will be attending Feed My Starving Children on Monday January 30, 2016.

Have a fabulous weekend and an extra 5 day long break next week.  ðŸ˜€

Friday the 13th!
And Pajama Day!  Woo Hoo!  It was crazy here at ASU Prep.

A BIGGS Thank You for all of the donations in our Penny War.  Students LOVED this little competition.  We don't have the totals yet, but I do know that 5/6 did not win the free dress day. :(

Kindness week was awesome.  I saw a lot of kind acts of service.  You have wonderful children!

Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 16 AND a school holiday.  Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

Tuesday is 100th day of school.  Your child can decorate a shirt with 100 things.  They MAY NOT decorate their shirt with anything edible.  Sorry.  You can imagine the challenges that come with food on a shirt!  We will take a photo to share!

Please send in the permission slip for our upcoming field trip on Friday, January 20, 2017.  We are going to the science center.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch as well.

Also, we are still accepting money for our Science Camp in May.  It is such a great deal for the $$$ spent!  Chaperones are required to have a fingerprint clearance card.  All chaperones will be doubled up in each cabin with students.

ILP forms came home for you.  There will be a bit of a change for ILP's on January 25 and 26.  If you need to meet a particular teacher, please fill out the form that was sent home and return ASAP.  All families are signing up for a group time.  Students will be leading the conference in their foundation classroom.  Teachers will be available if you have questions during that group time.  Questions?  Please reach out to your foundation teacher.

We are working on matter - because it matters!  Everyone will be having a test either the 23rd or 24th of January, depending on what day your child has science.

Have a wonderful three day weekend!  Enjoy your children, because they grow up TOO fast!!!

Yours in science,
Mrs. Biggs

Hello Families!
Welcome back to 2017!  It is going to be a GREAT year!

The Great Kindness Challenge is being held the week of January 9, 2017.  There is a theme for each day!  Students can dress to match the theme if they wish.

Monday - Step up to Kindness *Wear your boots with your school uniform
Tuesday - Show Some Love * Wear red, pink, and white with uniform bottoms
Wednesday - Team up to Clean *Wear your favorite team jersey with uniform bottoms
Thursday - Shine for Kindness *Wear NEON with uniform bottoms
Friday - Wake up to Kindness *Wear Pajamas but NO SLIPPERS

Students can purchase kindness grams before school and send them to a friend/teacher for 0.50 cents

Friendly and Kind coin drive will be going on this week also.  Each grade level is trying to collect the most pennies and bills.  Each grade level can donate silver coins to other grade levels which counts against that grade levels final total.  But, ALL of the money collected is going towards a GREAT cause: Feed My Starving Children.  It is friendly, kind coin drive with a little twist.  Students can donate to their coin jar or to another grade level's coin jar before school.  The grade level with the highest total earns a FREE DRESS DAY!!!  So, donate pennies and bills to 5/6 and donate silver coins to the other grade levels!

You should have received a letter home explaining the January 25 & 26 ILP sign up.  The ILP will be student led conference.  If you need to speak to a specific teacher those days, please sign and return the letter to your child's foundation teacher ASAP.  You will sign up for a group time on the conference sign up that comes via email.  Please let your child's foundation teacher know if you have questions.

Science Camp - Please continue to make monthly payments for science camp!  All forms will be coming home during ILP conferences or sent home the following week if you don't come to conferences.  Students $155 and Chaperones $110.  All chaperones are REQUIRED to have a fingerprint clearance card.

ASU Prep School Picnic is February 24, 2017.  We are currently accepting donations for the 5/6 classroom baskets.  We hope you will be able to donate 1 or 2 items. Thank you in advance!!  We are requesting that all donations be sent in by February 10th.  Thank you, thank you!  We would love a volunteer to help coordinate this effort!

One of our basket themes is: Family Fun
The other basket theme is: Outdoor Fun

All of 5/6 is participating in a program called Class Links.  We will be conducting a variety of activities during our foundation classroom to encourage students to get to know each other a little better and to continue to build a strong classroom environment.
