February 17, 2017

Hello 5/6 Science Families!

We have had a very good week, but it also feels like it has been a week with a lot of extra days!  I think I can speak for everyone and correctly say that WE ARE READY FOR A 3 DAY WEEKEND!

Enjoy your holiday and time with your family.  I will be heading to my home state, the great State of Texas to help my mother pack and move to a new home.

We have finished up our matter unit.  We took a test.  We finished our puzzle.  All of the elements that students created are past due after today!  Your child should have turned in their element with the rubric.  Points are deducted if the project is late.

We are moving on to the Human Body.  We discuss pretty much everything with the exception of reproduction,  It isn't part of the standard for 5th and 6th grade.  Unfortunately at this age when you start talking about the reproduction systems a lot of giggling takes place.

6th graders will be working in groups of six and organizing a medical clinic.  Each student in the group of six will have their own specialty. They will take a test over this specialty, create a 3-D model, teach the other five in their group, and the entire group will take one more test before I give them a "patient" to treat.

5th graders will also be working in groups of six and will be creating a 3-D outline of the human body/body systems.  Each student will be creating to scale part of their system on this 3-D model.  Students will bring in their own supplies to create their human.  These replicas will be gender neutral.
